The Beginning
by Bill Fletcher on 7/20/2009 10:02:45 PM

The Old Sycamore
Welcome!

So here is my first blog, sent to my friends, those curious, and whomever might wander this internet way.  Thanks in advance for your interest, and for the simple fact that we who strive to make visual poetry, though we strive for reasons within ourselves, do appreciate the viewer, as it is the viewer who completes the connection.  And Art, at its essence is about connection, to someone or something.  More on that later.

So, check out some connection to this old Sycamore Tree!  How do you not love trees!!  Trees have all the poetry, grace and balance as do figures, and that's why they are so difficult to paint and so beautiful if you get them right!  Those of you who know Sycamores know they have a Nature-- a creek lovin' nature.  Some of you also have creek loving nature.  And so you share this.

What Nature do you share?

You have done a great "tree portrait" for trees are so individual and unique, just like people. I am always thinking in analogies and your piece on trees makes me think that like trees, we should always be comfortable with being who we are--you never see a sycamore trying to posture itself as a peach tree....:)
Looking forward to all the beautiful work I know is heading this way on this blog!

What a great beginning to this new venture. Always the teacher and philosopher, you beautifully described in words and your painting the beauty and uniqueness of trees - I guess I must have that "creek loving nature" since I am constantly attracted to trees. With your help, I may some day be able to capture them in paint!

Very nice tree, Bill - I think sycamore trees are my favorite - they line the creeks and in the winter their white bark is stunning. You have really captured their elegance in this wonderfully composed painting. I like how the two smaller trees guide the viewer to the near tree.

Wandered onto your site. Went through your paintings and backed into your blog. Thoroughly enjoyed it...you are putting out some things that connect very deeply to me, I believe there is a shared nature here that connects to our God.

Bill, you are know for your teaching ability, and rightly so, but each painting of yours is a master lesson in itself. May your much-deserved success continue.
